The older woman who sent it, Nana, lives in Vermont. Addie and Nana become friendly, and Nana invites Addie to her home for Christmas. Addie is usually the kind of person who plays it safe. However, with her own family out of the country, she accepts the invitation. Addie is welcomed by the rest of Nana's family, including the son, James. This starts a new Christmas tradition in which Addie could find a new family and maybe even love.
